More Facebook Groups for Transplant Recipients, Donor Families, and Pre-Transplant Patients

MORE FACEBOOK GROUPS

When I last wrote a post to this blog about Facebook groups which were devoted in some way to the issues of organ transplants, I only was a member of two groups.  Since then I have discovered even more, and belong to ten, some dealing with life after a transplant, others with the diseases which led to the transplant, plus others devoted to uniting donor families with organ recipients, getting a tattoo post-transplant, and even one devoted to my favorite transplant center, IU Hospital.

Most are what Facebook refers to as "closed," meaning that one has to ask to be a part or a member of the group.  For the most part one just has to answer a simple question or two.  I have yet to be denied admittance.  I have seen one of those listed below is referred to as a "secret" group, but don't ask me about how I got in  (It is no secret, I just don't know!).

Each group has a "mission statement" of sorts posted near the top.  In my previous post about Facebook groups I cut and pasted those statements to the post; this time I just copied the banners so that you can readily identify the group pages.  I'll let you look up the "mission statements" if you are interested.  They change over time anyway.

So here are some more ideas for Facebook groups to join if you are a donor, recipient, related to one, or just curious.  Just remember, and many of the group administrators will remind you, there is nothing better than the advice of a professional when dealing with such a life-threatening experience as needing an organ transplant.  Look to these groups for support and advice based on personal experiences.
